Mint and Chocolate

Back when we tackled our plain-looking reception room, we spent hours (okay…45 minutes) in Home Depot “discussing” paint colors. We tested out samples on our walls and agonized over the differences between Elephant’s Breath and Dark Granite.

When it came to selecting the colors for our house facades, Roy was prepared to battle it out with us.

But when he let us know he had picked out the paints for the three houses, we just gave him the thumbs up without even looking. I think he was a little bewildered. He didn’t expect to have his Perennial Green and Misty Meadow approved without a fight. Honestly, we were all just exhausted.

Though, days later, we were a little nervous walking into Midnight on the Bayou after painting had begun. By this point we’d seen the color samples–wasn’t “mint green” for beach houses and Sicily?

The color on the north house turned out more subtle than we thought, and went well with the trim on the south house.

It looked even better when set against the rich chocolate brown of the shutters and trim. But you’ll have to wait for the next installment to see the final coats.

At this point, we were three weeks into construction. Still moving along at a brisk pace but so much more to do! And though we really shouldn’t have taken a break, all that mint and chocolate inspired us to hit Farrell’s Ice Cream, a few blocks away, in downtown Brea.

Take a look at how we “aged” those houses!
