Walls and Balcony

The Door to Narnia

“But don’t go trying to use the same route twice. Indeed, don’t try to get there at all. It will happen when you’re not looking for it.” –C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Our walls were looking pretty good after the faux wood siding went on. There were real glass windows and cute, painted shutters to be installed shortly. One wall even had it’s own balcony and columns.

Walls and Balcony

We hadn’t really thought about how the people living in these neat little houses would be getting in and out–this was the back courtyard after all. But after looking at the finished facades, there was definitely something missing. We needed at least one door. R. M. Construction was happy to add it. (And by “happy” I mean with a minimum of muttering and grumbling.)

Shortly after the door–a real working one with a deadbolt and everything–was added, my brother opened it, looked inside, and said, “Oh, this must be the door to Narnia.”

Door to Narnia

I freely admit that, once everyone had gone home for the night, I peeked inside. No passage to Narnia, unfortunately, but that doesn’t mean a door going nowhere can’t still be magic. As you can see in the above picture, we’ve got the house wired up for some interesting effects slotted for future puzzles. I’ll give you a hint: “Shave and a Haircut.”

What would you do with a door to nowhere?

We thought our reception room paint “discussion” was difficult. Next up, we had to choose paint colors for our houses. Yikes.
